Seacoast Outright Seeks
New Executive Director
SEACOAST OUTRIGHT (SO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves, supports, and advocates for LGBTQ+ youth and their families in the Greater Seacoast Area of New Hampshire, and southern Maine. Among its many activities, SO offers weekly groups for LGBTQ+ youth in different age groups, groups for parents, regular social activities, and a mentorship program in collaboration with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. In addition, SO provides LGBTQ+ focused diversity and inclusion training for area nonprofits and government agencies. The organization also hosts Portsmouth Pride, the longest-running pride celebration in New Hampshire.
We are seeking an Executive Director (ED) to keep the organization on its current growth trajectory, solidifying our recent progress and looking to the future to address the ever-changing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. The ED reports to the SO Board of Directors and will be supported by a small but capable staff with potential for growth.
The ideal candidate will be committed to the mission of SO and have experience with LGBTQ+ youth, as well as with developing community relationships and fundraising strategies, event planning, and volunteer management and supervision. They should be self-motivated, detail- oriented, and willing to keep records of tasks accomplished and in progress. Candidates should be enthusiastic, creative, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in collaboration with diverse groups.
Priority Areas of Responsibility
Maintain an engaged, active, productive Board of Directors in collaboration with the Board Chair.

Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board. Attend bimonthly Board Meetings and key Board Committee meetings.

In collaboration with Board Chair, establish Board agendas and provide necessary accompanying documentation to Board in advance of meetings.

Serve as liaison between Board and staff, leading the Board’s contribution to resolution of any concerns or challenges.

Collaborate with the Board in creating and fulfilling the strategic plan and align staff work plans to achieve strategic goals.

Engage with the Chair and Board to identify and recruit Board candidates with the skills, attributes, and expertise needed to achieve the vision of the organization.

In collaboration with the Board, be responsible for state and federal nonprofit regulatory compliance.
Lead fundraising and development to secure the financial resources necessary to fulfill the organization’s mission.

In cooperation with the Fundraising Committee, develop, implement, and monitor a creative, comprehensive fundraising and development plan.

Collaborate with staff to develop materials necessary to execute all development activities.

Solicit major gifts individually and as part of a team.

Coordinate end-of-year appeal.

Secure grant funding as needed and be responsible for related monitoring and reporting requirements.

Lead major annual events, including Portsmouth Pride. Work with Pride Committee from January to June to coordinate all aspects of Pride. Handle City permitting, coordinate venue, and solicit sponsorships.
Collaborate with Board Treasurer, staff, and contract bookkeeper to assure fluid, accurate financial management of Seacoast Outright’s resources.

Lead development of the annual SO operating budget (appx. $280,000 revenue) including soliciting input from all staff and Committees.

With the consulting bookkeeper, prepare monthly financial reports for the Board meeting and present on the financial status of the organization, highlighting concerns that require Board action.

Coordinate meetings of the Finance Committee, as needed.

Manage operating and project expenditures within budget and adjust financial processes as needed to assure accurate, clear tracking and reporting.
Oversee an inspired and productive team of staff, delegating tasks as appropriate and coordinating staff activities in furtherance of SO’s mission.

Hire and supervise full- and part-time staff (Program Coordinator, Community Outreach and Education Coordinator, Pride Coordinator, interns, temp employees, etc.)

Implement board-adopted policies with respect to human resources, office management, recordkeeping, and other related duties.

Support and ensure success of staff in their coordination of SO groups and youth events, social media/marketing, trainings, and annual Pride celebration.

Perform or oversee performance of general administrative duties as demanded by the day-to-day operations of SO.
Maintain and expand network of area partners as needed for the successful accomplishment of SO’s mission.

As a representative of the most visible LGBTQ+ organization in New Hampshire, serve on state and local boards, committees, and panels.

Represent SO as requested by the print, online, and tv media.

Identify and utilize partner service providers to refer youth whose needs exceed SO’s focus and capacity.
Qualifications
SO seeks an individual who is committed to the organization’s mission of serving, supporting, and advocating for LGBTQ+ youth. Prior experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and with youth and their families is highly beneficial.
Competitive candidates will possess most or all of the following:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

5+ years of demonstrated leadership experience

Prior exposure to the responsibilities listed above

A collaborative, proactive, and communicative mindset.

Strong knowledge of the needs of SO’s served population

Availability to attend and work at frequent events occurring outside of regular business hours
Candidates may benefit from familiarity with social service work (BSW or MSW degree or prior work experience in related field).
Because the position involves work with minors, the selected candidate must satisfactorily pass a state background check prior to beginning employment.
Compensation Range: $68,000-$74,000, commensurate with experience.
