 Exclusive Opportunity for 2018!

There are several easy ways businesses can support Portsmouth PRIDE. All donations are tax-deductible.

Why Sponsor PRIDE?

LGBT audiences respond strongly to targeted advertising with a high-level of brand recognition and recall. In other demographics, this level of brand penetration can be difficult to achieve without a significantly higher investment.

Of LGBT adults in the United States polled on their consumer behavior:

  • roughly half are more likely to patronize a business that tailors its advertising to the LGBT community;

  • 7 out of 10 are inclined to consider brands that support non-profit organizations and causes important to them as LGBT individuals;

  • in a 12 month period, 23% switched their patronage to a competing company due to its support of the LGBT community;

  • 7 out of 10 would remain loyal to a company that they perceive to be LGBT-friendly, even if a less friendly competitor offers a more affordable or convenient product or service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Portsmouth PRIDE?

Portsmouth PRIDE is an annual event hosted by Seacoast Outright, a non-profit organization that has been serving the Seacoast LGBTQ+ community and its allies for 25 years.

Pride events take place across the world during the month of June to celebrate LGBTQ+ culture. The first Pride march in the US took place on June 28, 1970. After an assembly in New York City's Greenwich Village, marchers walked 51 blocks from Christopher Street to Central Park. The march marked the first anniversary of the Stonewall Inn riots.

Seacoast Outright is proud to host Portsmouth PRIDE as an annual community-wide and family-focused event, made possible by our amazing sponsors!

When and where is Portsmouth PRIDE?

The 4th Annual Portsmouth PRIDE will take place on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in downtown Portsmouth, NH.

What does the event schedule look like for Portsmouth PRIDE?

12:00PM – Marchers convene at Portsmouth Public Library

1:00PM – PRIDE Marketplace Opens

1:15PM – March leaves Library

1:45PM – PRIDE March Arrives at Strawbery Banke

2:00PM – PRIDE Entertainment Program

5:00PM – PRIDE Marketplace Closes

7:00PM – Youth Post-Party

7:00PM – 21+ VIP Lounge Reception

8:00PM – 21+ After Party

What time and where does the march begin and end?

Marchers will convene at the Portsmouth Public Library between Noon and 1:00PM to organize into color groups. Beginning at 1:15PM, we will march together in rainbow formation through downtown Portsmouth, arriving at Strawbery Banke (destination for the remainder of the PRIDE Program) at approximately 1:45PM.

What is the march route?

This .80-mile route will start on Parrott Avenue, proceeding down Pleasant Street, then Court Street, and finally Marcy Street to the entrance of Strawbery Banke.

I want to march! How do I make that happen?

All you have to do is show up at the grassy area between the library and middle school- we will be impossible to miss!  Registration is not required.

We strongly encourage everyone to wear one of six rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple), as our goal is to march in rainbow formation through downtown.

You can choose to march with any color you’d like. If you are affiliated with a specific group that will be marching, check with other group members to coordinate which color you will march with.

While not required, you can purchase an official 2018 Portsmouth PRIDE t-shirt in one of the six rainbow colors at the staging area before the march.

How do I get my t-shirt once I’ve ordered it?

T-shirts will not be mailed - PICKUP IS REQUIRED. No t-shirt will be given until full payment is made. You may purchase a shirt, or claim your purchased one, at any of the following days/times/locations:

- June 9 between 9:00AM and 4:00PM at Market Square Day (Seacoast Outright Booth)

- June 17 between 10:00AM and 4:00PM at Kittery Block Party (Seacoast Outright Booth)

- June 12 between 6:00PM and 8:00PM at Flatbread Pizza (downtown Portsmouth)

- June 23 (PRIDE Day) between 12:00PM and 1:00PM at Portsmouth Public Library

- June 23 (PRIDE Day) between 1:00PM and 5:00PM at Strawbery Banke (Outright Booth)

I won’t be marching, but I would like to watch and cheer for the marchers. Where is the best location for me to do so?

We appreciate your support! Wherever you decide to watch the march from, we ask that you please remain on the sidewalks along the march route. The best viewing and cheering locations along the route include:

  • Corner of Parrott Avenue and Junkins Avenue

  • Parrott Avenue/Junkins Avenue (outskirts of the municipal parking lot)

  • Corner of Pleasant Street and Court Street

  • Corner of Court Street and Marcy Street

  • Strawbery Banke entrance on Marcy Street

We estimate that marchers will arrive at Strawbery Banke at 1:45PM, which would be an excellent location for you to wait in anticipation of the march. Marchers will be welcomed into Strawbery Banke with cheers and music. The PRIDE Marketplace will feature craft vendors, informational organizations, food, and music.

Where can I stay?

Is public transportation available?

Portsmouth is a “walking city” and therefore does not have an extensive public transportation system. However, there are a few options if you prefer not to drive to town:

For more information on transportation in Portsmouth, visit http://www.portsmouthnh.com/transportation/

Where can I park?

Parking at Strawbery Banke on the day of the event will be limited to Marketplace vendors and vehicles with handicapped plates/tags.

You can park for free at the Community Connect Church (200 Chase Drive, Portsmouth) and catch a shuttle to Market Square (info on shuttle schedule here).

The Masonic Temple (351 Middle Street, Portsmouth) has parking within walking distance to the Public Library if you're gathering there to march.

The High Hanover Parking Garage.

For additional parking info, check ParkPortsmouth.com.

Where should I eat in downtown Portsmouth?

You can grab some food right at the PRIDE Marketplace this year – there will be a food truck area and Figtree Kitchen at Strawbery Banke will be open as well. Sorry, no alcohol will be permitted on the event grounds.

Make sure to visit our wonderful Out & About Partners on PRIDE day and throughout our extended Out & About programming June 17-24th.

Are there public restrooms near the event site?

Public restrooms are available in the Hanover Street Parking Garage and at Prescott Park (across the street from Strawbery Banke). Porta-potties will be located at the library and Strawbery Banke as well.

Is there free public wifi in Portsmouth?

Yes. eCoast wifi can be accessed throughout downtown Portsmouth; however, service and signal strength are not guaranteed and vary by location.

Can I/we have a table at the PRIDE Marketplace?

The PRIDE Marketplace will be open for 4 hours during the event, from 1-5pm. Vendor load-in and setup times will be staggered beginning at 10:30am. This is a rain-or-shine event. The PRIDE Marketplace will be taking place at Puddle Dock Field at Strawbery Banke.

Please contact Christine Stilwell (christine.s@seacoastoutright.org) with any questions.

Can we do this awesome thing together?

Have a great idea for a collaboration with Seacoast Outright/Portsmouth PRIDE? We'd love to hear it! Please reach out to Jd at jessd@seacoastoutright.org or 603.552.5824.

Can I perform at PRIDE?

Portsmouth PRIDE planning for 2018 is well underway and we are currently accepting submissions for our PRIDE Festival stage! We are looking for artists, performers, speakers, and video designers who want to get their work in front of the thousands of people who join us to celebrate LGBTQ+ youth and our community. Come, be loud, be proud, and be a part of this incredible youth and family focused PRIDE celebration on June 23, 2018!

*Seacoast Outright hosts several events throughout the year, and lots of events leading up to PRIDE. Please indicate if you would be open to discussing participation in these events, as well.  If you have any additional questions, feedback, or concerns please reach out to jessd@seacoastoutright.org

I/we just don't have anything in the budget this year, is there another way my business/organization can support Portsmouth PRIDE?

You could make an IN-KIND donation! We are always looking for partners who will donate goods and services to help reduce the cost of the event. Got an idea for how you can help? Drop us a line!
